Winter's Bone

Winter's Bone

Daniel Woodrell's modern classic is an unforgettable tale of desperation and courage that inspired the award-winning film starring Jennifer Lawrence.

Ree Dolly's father has skipped bail on charges that he ran a crystal meth lab, and the Dollys will lose their house if he doesn't show up for his next court date. With two young brothers depending on her, 16-year-old Ree knows she has to bring her father back, dead or alive. Living in the harsh poverty of the Ozarks, Ree learns quickly that asking questions of the rough Dolly clan can be a fatal mistake. But, as an unsettling revelation lurks, Ree discovers unforeseen depths in herself and in a family network that protects its own at any cost.

"The lineage from Faulkner to Woodrell runs as deep and true as an Ozark stream in this book...his most profound and haunting yet." -- Los Angeles Times Book Review

  • Winter ‘s Bone

Such a tragic tale of a culture that has brought so many good folk to their knees. My heart strings were pulled by Ree and the horrors she faced. I read the book in less than 24 hrs. as I wanted to see her triumph over her hard, hard life.

  • Solid story

It was good! Violent, raw, drug induced chaos of a story. It's a chick flick for drug addicts who have multiple mug shots in police records.

  • Takes your breath away

I've never read anything like book.

  • Quick read

Great overall plot and an ending you won't see coming. Although I wish he could make his books a little longer and deeper, when he spins a description of a place, his less is more style descriptive pros is anything but boring.

  • Read it twice

I read this novel after reading Tomato Red because it was just that incredible. I will continue to read anything this author writes. So moving and thought-provoking. No chick flicks here. Gives anyone pause...
