My mom always said you don’t get a second shot at making a first impression. I’ve remembered that my entire career. Especially since I’m one of the few black men who play professional hockey.
I’m calculated and respectful in the way I speak to my coaches, the owners, and the media. I’ve never taken a risk… until her.
I could blame it on the fact that for once I pushed away the pressure of my career for the ocean waves, the sand, and good times with my new teammates. But those are excuses because the minute I saw her at the airport, something lit up inside me and the best week of my life was spent with her in my bed.
After our week in paradise, we said goodbye, exchanged phone numbers and both assumed that unless one of us was flying through the other’s city on the opposite side of the country, our vacation fling was over.
Then one night after practice I see her. She’s here. In my city. Telling me she moved here for a job. If that’s not fate tell me what is.
I’ve never wanted a second shot more than I do this time, but she’s determined to leave what we were on the island we left behind.

Ande and Cory met in a previous novella and had an island fling. When they go back to real life, Ande ghosts him as she is in Salt Lake and he is in Florida. Fast forward several months later, and Ande transfers to Florida and Cory feels like he has a second chance to woo her. What I liked about the book, the relationships between Cory and his teammates. What drove me nuts about the book, Ande. Since I was given an advanced copy of the book from the author for my review, I don’t want to give any spoilers, but bottom line, she was wimpy and dishonest at times. I thought Cory could do better. Overall, a decent book, but I felt that it was the weakest in the series.

This is Cory's story and he had a fling with Ande some months before this book starts. But when they go their separate ways he goes a bit crazy with women and that was not something I loved about him. However when he finds Ande again I loved that he wanted her and he worked hard to get her to give him his "second shot." This is a second chance romance but it also has a bit of a revenge plot to this story and while I am not a fan of that type of trope, it worked very well in this story and made for a big reveal that was intense and very drama filled. There is a side plot with Ande and her sister. I am not a fan of sisters going after the same guy so this was not something I liked in this book but it did give this story a huge twist and made it very different from the other books in this series. I like that the author tried something very risky and different and while it was not something I loved it did make for an interesting and drama filled later part of the story. This was a good second chance romance and I really did like Cory. I liked that he saw what a treasure Ande was and how he wanted her to give him his second shot. I also adored that we got a lot of Kane time and I cannot wait for his book. I received a complimentary early release copy of this e-book from the author prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.
